“President Donald Trump has said a lot of bad things about the media since he started running for president two-plus years ago. He’s suggested that the press doesn’t really like America. He has said the media is the “enemy of the American people.” He has repeatedly called journalists the “most dishonest” people. He has worked to paint news stories he doesn’t like as “fake” — and claimed he created that term.
He’s never gone as far as he did on Wednesday morning when he tweeted this: “With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!”
No, this is NOT “fear mongering”.
It is the height of arrogant wishful thinking that something”can’t be happening” just because it never has…yet.
The most fearful thing here is people so eager to blow it off and explain it away; because, in fact , this is a pretender “president” attempting to overturn the Constitutional rule of law.
And, while we’re at it? This is a pretender “president” that has an ever increasing weight of evidence to show that he cheated the election process with the technical assistance of a hostile foreign government with whom said pretender had long-established and diverse financial dealings with about which he has never produced any record.
I can’t say it any more plainly than the author of the piece:
“This is, simply put, the stuff of authoritarian governments. Democracy is built on the free and independent press. If/when a president or any leader seizes the ability to control the news media, democracy dies.”
Let’s be clear here: THIS is an assault on the American system of government — an attack on a free press is just an opener.
And it’s not even the first.
